Description

Never before were science, research and technology so dependent on the availability of research data for their progress. And yet, while the paradigm shift towards what is known as data intensive methods was effected at least a decade ago, initiatives catering for data identification, collection, documentation, storage, sharing and overall management are only now beginning to occupy research agendas.

The purpose of this special panel discussion is to shed some light on the present situation, general setting and plans with respect to research data (structured and unstructured - from raw numerical data up to high-quality cultural content) and related data infrastructures in Greece. Among others, with a focus on the Greek research community, this session will:

  • discuss particular requirements of some of the different contemporary AI and AI-related research areas,
  • try to identify commonalities and differentiating features,
  • look into possibilities of collaboration aiming at economies of scale,
  • discuss the relation between National and European Research
    Infrastructure Plans,
  • discuss issues pertaining to metadata-based documentation of data items and collections and the targetted interoperability properties,
  • touch upon issues of data accessibility and sharing in the light of current trends (e.g. open content, open source).
