Prof. Antonis Kokossis
Prof. Antonis Kokossis, CEng, FIChemE, FRSA, FIET. National Technical University of Athens, School of Chemical Engineering.
Prof. Kokossis brings expertise in process systems design and process integration with strong emphasis on renewable energy systems, polygeneration, and the design of biorefineries and industrial symbiosis networks. His research includes the design of multiphase reactors, complex separation and reactive-separation systems, energy and power networks, and environmental problems across a wide spectrum of applications (water reuse, recycle, and regeneration systems, wastewater management, gasification, waste to energy projects), using a variety of design and optimization techniques (graph-based methods, genetic algorithms, mathematical programming, customized MILP’s, accelerated methods) to design chemical industrial processes. A steady proponent of AI, he experimented with knowledge and information management techniques for industrial applications that included:
- the use of semantics (FP6 h-TechSight) to support design decisions and to extract design knowledge as a transferable asset;
- the integration of heterogeneous resources for model reduction and analysis;
- demonstration applications of search agents for biomedical applications and e-health systems;
- the use of agent-enabled negotiation systems for energy grids; and
- the use of AI tools with computer grids to accelerate the deployment of design experiments (FP7 BeinGrid: distributed computing algorithms).
He received recent support to study the development of intelligent networks for Industrial Symbiosis with a purpose to fully valorise waste streams as feedstocks that can produce useful products.
